Morel Mushrooms

Connecting with nature- It is spring in the midwest and that means "morels". These are unique to a few weeks every spring when the temperature is warming up and moisture is right. I've found my stick, got my sack. My instincts are keen as I have hunted this way for many years. My grandfather taught me the tricks of being a mushroomer, my husband's grandfather taught him. We taught our children. So today I walked into the woods to search for those delicious morels. I hunted for about a half hour when I spot a tiny 1" grey morel. These are always first and mean the climate is right. I return with 8 total 6 greys, but more importantly 2 yellows.. YELLOWS, these are the cadillacs of morels, we all want the biggest yellows we can find.  I will go out every day for the next 10 days to find as many as I can, so will my husband, some of our kids and my parents. When we have enough for a feast I will tell you the secret to the perfect cooked morel. Bon Appetit!
